Company Auditions

Our dance competition teams are a special part of our dance studio for dancers who want to take their training to the next level and experience the excitement of performing on stage at regional and national competitions. These teams are designed for committed dancers ages 5–18 who are passionate about dance, enjoy performing, and are ready to work hard as part of a team.

Being on a competition team teaches dancers important skills beyond dance technique, including teamwork, responsibility, confidence, and stage presence. Dancers get the chance to represent their studio, grow their artistry, and create lasting friendships while gaining valuable performance experience. 

Auditions are held to select dancers for the competition teams, ensuring each dancer is placed in the group that best matches their age, ability level, and style. The process typically includes:

1. Warm-Up & Technique – Dancers begin with a warm-up that may include stretching, across-the-floor exercises, and basic turns, leaps, and kicks to show their technical foundation.
2. Learning a Combination – Dancers are taught a short routine (usually in jazz, lyrical, tap, hip hop and tumble) to perform in small groups. This allows teachers to see how quickly dancers pick up choreography, their style, and performance quality.
3. Performance & Evaluation – Dancers perform the combination, and instructors look for confidence, stage presence, precision, and ability to work as part of a team. Judges also evaluate flexibility, strength, musicality, and overall potential.
4. Age & Level Placement – Auditions are usually divided by age groups (for example, Minis 5–8, Juniors 9–12, Teens 13–15, and Seniors 16–18). Within those groups, dancers may be placed in different levels depending on their experience and skill set.
5. Results & Commitment – After auditions, dancers and families are notified of team placements. Joining a competition team requires a higher level of commitment, including attending regular team rehearsals, participating in required classes (such as ballet, technique, and conditioning), and traveling to competitions throughout the season.
